Budget Update as of 7/1/09
Senate Republicans have refused support on the cash crisis bills that were approved by Assembly Democrats and Republicans last week. The State will begin paying with IOUs. The State Senate will reconvene on Wednesday morning. On 6/16/09, the Committee voted to reject the Governor's major In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) proposals that would have reduced state funding for IHSS workers to $8/hr and narrowed or elminated eligibility for services based on assessments by county social workers. But the Committee approved a plan that would reduce IHSS caseload by just under 10% by narrowing eligibility that will result in a reduction to the program of about $117 million in state general fund money. The Committee also rejected the Governor's original proposals to limit IHSS domestic and related services. The Committee did not rescind the reduction in State funding for IHSS wages to go to $9.50 per hour effective 7/1/09.
